Hull and Machinery Surveys
With one of the largest concentrations of NAMS surveyors in the marine industry, DLS Marine provides a wide range of hull and machinery services from general condition to audio gauging as well as specialized offerings.
Our skilled team maintains an extensive computer database of over 12,000 vessels valued by our office and has digital access to domestic and international vessel databases. Additionally, we sustain and manage an electronic journal that contains information and records pertaining to new construction costs, day rates, repair costs and actual/reported vessel sales.
What we survey
General Condition
Detailed and comprehensive surveys inspecting the overall integrity of the subject and loaded cargo, with a complete report. We document the vessel’s outfitting and overall general condition, and do not look at the cargo unless we see something unsafe or likely to damage the vessel.
Audio Gauging
Hull plating thickness measured to assess vulnerability to water ingress in areas of thin or corroded plating.
Damage Surveys
Cause, nature and extent of damage, plus recommendations for repair to hull and machinery, offshore platforms, docks, dredges, yachts and cargo. We prepare repair specifications, estimate costs, solicit bids, negotiate and act as the client’s representative through the repair period.
Consultation
Planning, estimating and feasibility studies for marine cargo, equipment deployment, logistics and specialized projects.
Salvage
Attend, monitor and document salvage of sunken and partially sunken vessels, structures and equipment, and manage the salvage bid process.
Suitability Inspections
Structural integrity, outfitting, equipment, certifications and crew assessed for a specific job or service.
Digital Inspections
High-resolution imaging processed into reports for condition and valuation, damage and on/off-charter surveys.
On- / Off-Charter Surveys
Condition established at on-charter and again at off-charter to determine any change.
Expert Witness
Testimony in valuation, safety, USCG regulations, marine surveying, vessel operations, salvage, cargo handling and navigation.
Machinery Failure Analysis
Decades of experience supporting parties in complex failure analysis cases.
Project Management
Onsite monitoring and inspection of new construction and repair projects, including specifications, cost estimation and milestone tracking.
Loading, Securing, Trip-in-Tow, Trip-Under-Power
Analysis and approval of vessels, towing gear, stowage, lashings and transit for domestic and international routes.
