Vice Admiral Al Burkhalter, Jr.
Vice Admiral Al Burkhalter, Jr. is the Founder of Burkhalter Associates, which advises senior management teams of top Fortune 100 companies. During his 40 year career in government he was involved with major decisions regarding some of the nation's most important research and production programs for the Department of Defense.
Vice Admiral has served on numerous commissions and boards since retiring. He chaired a senior Department of Defense panel dealing with advanced space technology and a major Department of Energy panel that addressed new nuclear reactor programs; he provided assistance to the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee studying antisubmarine warfare, and he led a government task force that addressed counter terrorism and counter narcotics for President Bush. Vice Admiral also developed a wide range of worldwide corporate and government contacts in the international banking, high-technology research and development, nuclear environmental safety and telecommunications industries.
Since founding Burkhalter Associates in 1986, he has been an adviser to CEOs and senior management of some of the top Fortune 100 companies, including Chase Manhattan Bank, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, AT&T, McDonnell Douglas, Waste Management, and Litton Industries. He also has worked with other investors to provide management investment and advisory services in the international global markets. From 1994 to 2003, Vice Admiral chaired an Executive Panel supporting the National Institute of Justice in the area of law enforcement and corrections technology and policy assessment.
In the early years of his military service he served in the Nuclear Submarine Service and subsequently, as a Flag Officer, Vice Admiral dealt with national security issues at the most senior levels of government. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and has been decorated by King Olaf of Norway.
He also has been a member of the DCI's Military Advisory Panel and serves on the Director, DIA's Leadership forum. He continues to serve as an adviser to senior intelligence community officials.
In the private sector, Vice Admiral serves on the Board of Directors of SteelCloud, a computer hardware company, serves as a senior consultant to major defense firms, and serves as an advisor to three smaller technology companies.
He is a graduate of the US Naval Academy with a BS in Engineering.
