San Diego is a coastal Southern California city located in the southwestern corner of the continental US. As of 2005, the city had a population of 1.3 million. It is the Golden State's second-largest city and the US' seventh-largest. The population of the greater San Diego metropolitan area exceeds 2.9 million and is a thriving home to middle market firms. San Diego also is a major center for the biotech, wireless cellular, defense and tourism industries. In 2004, the Milken Institute ranked San Diego as the US' top biotech cluster.
